Save Experimental Lakes Area

On Thursday, May 17th, the Government of Canada announced the news that they are shutting down ELA saying that the research done at ELA no longer fits within the government’s mandate and will close its doors in March 2013. This facility is important because it addresses environmental issues that are critical for Canadians from coast to coast, the research at ELA makes crucial contributions to environmental policy and law in Canada and around the world, and ELA is the only place in the world where scientists can easily carry out ”whole lake experiments” – studies that take place in actual lakes with the insects, plants, and fish naturally found there!
This is shocking news to the paddling community since ELA is home to many paddling routes that we have paddled and enjoyed over the years.
Please a few minutes to learn about this facility on their website: http://saveela.org/ and sign the petition to keep it open.
