Kayak Courses


Paddle Manitoba, and FortWhyte Alive have partnered to provide you with quality Paddle Canada kayak courses. These courses will introduce you, and your family or group, to the basics of kayaking. In addition to safety training and equipment education, you will be taught the stokes and maneuvers that will help you to further enhance your paddling experience and build confidence on the water.
Location
Kayak courses are taught at the FortWhyte Outdoor Adventure Centre, 2505 McGillivray Blvd.
Length of Courses
Weekend courses start at 9:00 AM. Weekday courses begin at 5:00 PM and are
split over two days. Please arrive 15 minutes before the course start.
Equipment
All paddling equipment (kayaks, paddles, PFDs) is provided.
Please wear clothing appropriate for the conditions and bring a change.
Please bring a change of clothes in anticipation of cold and wet
conditions. Students will enter the water as part of their course. You will
learn paddling skills as well as participate in a "wet exit" - essential
for safe paddling technique - so bring a change of clothes. More details of required
items will be found on your registration form
Prerequisite
No previous kayaking skills are needed however a reasonable level
of physical fitness is required. Participants must be age 12 and over.
Successful Completion
Students will receive Paddle Canada certification upon successful completion of
the course.

2010 Courses
The Introduction to Kayaking course is designed to introduce the novice or relatively inexperienced kayaker to paddling. The emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of kayaking, along with a strong grounding in water safety and safe kayaking practices. Participants may paddle either a river kayak or sea kayak for this course.
