Introduction to Kayaking

The Introduction to Kayaking course is designed to introduce the novice or relatively inexperienced kayaker to paddling. The emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of kayaking, along with a strong grounding in water safety and safe kayaking practices. Participants may paddle either a river kayak or sea kayak for this course.
Length of Courses
Weekend courses start at 9:00 AM. Weekday courses begin at 5:00 PM and are split over two days. Please arrive 15 minutes before the course start.
Cost
$95 Paddle Manitoba / FortWhyte Members, $125 Non-Members
Equipment
All paddling equipment (kayaks, paddles, PFDs) is provided. Please wear clothing appropriate for the conditions and bring a change. Please bring a change of clothes in anticipation of cold and wet conditions. Students will enter the water as part of their course. You will learn paddling skills as well as participate in a “wet exit” – essential for safe paddling technique – so bring a change of clothes. More details of required items will be found on your registration form.
Prerequisite
No previous kayaking skills are needed however a reasonable level of physical fitness is required. Participants must be age 12 and over.
Successful Completion
Students will receive Paddle Canada certification upon successful completion of the course.
